Afternoon Patrol is inspired by Tonia's love of the ocean and people interacting with nature. It is a typical summer’s day on an Australian beach; people swimming in the surf and having fun under the watchful eyes of the lifesavers. The vivid red and yellow uniforms of the lifesavers in the foreground call for the viewer’s attention and complement the pale mint greens of the ocean. Wendy (aka “Where’s Wendy?”, Tonia’s fictional character who appears in many of her paintings) is seen coming out of the water in her red bikini.
The painting is intended to give the viewer happy memories and thoughts of summer at the beach.
Acrylic paint applied with brush and palette knife and finished with two coats of satin varnish. Thick edge quality cotton canvas. The painting is framed in a painted white timber, floating frame, has a wire across the back and is ready to hang.
